The day before yesterday, I visited Meiji Jingu Gyoen to see the Japanese irises!
Meiji Jingu Gyoen is a historic inner garden inside Meiji Jingu.
Every year around June, the iris field becomes one of the most seasonal places to visit in Tokyo.
Today, about 1,500 Japanese irises in around 150 varieties are carefully grown there.
The moment I stepped into the garden, the air felt different.
Even though it is located right beside the city, the scent of fresh green trees was so soothing.
And then, I saw the iris field! It was a breathtaking view!!
Each flower was beautiful and elegant on its own.
But when so many irises gathered together, the whole atmosphere seemed to brighten softly.
Each Japanese iris flower is said to bloom for only a very short time — just two or three days!
But what surprised me is that another flower can bloom from the same bud.
Because of that, the irises can be enjoyed for about a week,
changing their expression little by little each day.
It was not a “trip” but a short visit.
But spending a couple of hours enjoying beauty that exists only now was totally fulfilling.
Japan has four seasons and each of them has its own seasonal flowers.
I promised myself to spend this kind of time each season as a gift to myself!

一昨日、明治神宮御苑の菖蒲田を見に行きました！
明治神宮御苑は、明治神宮が建てられる前からある、歴史ある庭園です。
その中にある菖蒲田では、毎年6月頃になると花菖蒲が見頃を迎えます。
現在は、約150種・1,500株の花菖蒲が大切に育てられているそうです。
まず、御苑に入った瞬間、空気が変わりました。
境内にある木々たちとは違った植物たちや少し湿った土（台風がすぎた後だったからかも？）の香りに包まれて、
自然と深呼吸してました。
そして、菖蒲田が見えた瞬間、その見事な景色に歓喜♡
一輪一輪が、エレガントでうっとりする美しさ。
でも、たくさんの花菖蒲が集まって咲いている姿は、その場の空気までふわっと明るくしてくれて、心踊りました。
花菖蒲は、一輪の花が咲いている時間がとても短く、2〜3日（！）と言われています。
ただ、同じつぼみから次の花が咲くので（そんなことがあるんだとビックリ！）、
1週間ほど表情を変えながら楽しめるそうです。
この時期ならではの美しさに出会って、それをじっくり楽しんだら、心が本当に満たされました。
短い時間でしたが、とびきりやさしい、自分へのご褒美のような時間。
慌ただしい日々の中でも、こうして花を愛でる時間を持つってとてもいいなと思いました☺️
